YOUR STARTING POINT
A practical first-session checklist: choose a weapon, learn attack openings and get your hunting group ready.
This is an editorial preparation guide, not a hands-on review or a tested optimal build.
Start with one weapon
For your first session, pick one weapon that feels comfortable to move with. Spend a few minutes learning a basic attack, a defensive option and how to reposition. Changing equipment after every failed attempt makes it harder to tell whether the problem is timing, range or unfamiliar controls. You can experiment more once the fundamentals feel natural.
Read the monster before chasing damage
Treat the first encounter as a chance to observe. Watch what happens immediately before an attack, where the monster ends up afterward and how much time you have to respond. Aim to recognize one safe opening at a time. A repeatable opening is more useful to a beginner than a complicated combo that only works occasionally.
Use Focus Mode deliberately
Capcom’s Focus Mode presentation shows aimed attacks and guards, highlighted wounds and Focus Strikes. Practice recognizing those cues before trying to use every system at once. If the camera or controls feel uncomfortable, review the settings between hunts rather than repeatedly changing them in the middle of an encounter.
Set up the session with friends
Agree on the goal before joining: story progress, practice or a specific hunt. Confirm everyone has finished their setup and understands how to find the group. Keep the official online manual nearby for lobby and connection questions. After a hunt, choose one thing to improve together instead of trying to optimize the entire team immediately.
